The premise (spoiler-free)
What a beautiful way to describe one's mind: a kaleidoscope.
Curious Mind and Dancing Feet introduces us to a young girl whose ADHD mind is exactly that — a kaleidoscope: colorful, busy, always turning, and full of patterns nobody else sees. Surrounded by her family, she learns what her wonderful, wiggly, deeply curious mind can do — and that it isn't something to fix, but something to understand and celebrate.
What I loved
This book gets so much right. It gives neurodivergent kids an honest, joyful reflection of themselves, surrounded by wonderfully diverse characters (which we love over here!). It doesn't stop at representation, either — it actually teaches, offering coping strategies and a meditation tool kids can genuinely use, and it even highlights the hereditary nature of neurodivergence, something children's books rarely touch.
González is writing from experience, and it shows on every page — there's truthfulness here. The statements that bring the story full circle are lovely, and the glossary is a great addition that makes this as useful as it is heartwarming. The lovely illustrations are the icing on the cake — this book checks so many boxes for me.
Simply put: this book should be in every classroom.

What wasn't for me
Honestly? I turned this book upside down looking for a complaint and came up empty. When a picture book manages to be a mirror, a toolkit, and a warm hug at the same time — you just hand it the full five spines and say thank you.

Should you read it?
Yes — and then donate a copy to your nearest classroom. And that's really the magic of this series — it isn't only for neurodivergent kids. It's for ALL kids, helping them to understand uniqueness and meet the people around them with empathy. It's for the adults around them. And it's especially for the kids who've always felt different and deserve to see their kaleidoscope minds celebrated on the page.
